Raised by an artist but trained as a mathematician and paleontologist, Sofya finally found a way to blend her love of science, math, nature, and art. She uses the centuries-old technique of “French beading” to make three-dimensional sculptures from vintage botanical prints, Victorian illustrations, and Dutch still-lifes. Each flower and leaf is meticulously fashioned from small glass beads and wire to create everlasting floral arrangements permanently fixed in vintage midcentury planters.
Following the “art from nature” theme, Sofya also makes wire bonsai tree sculptures. No two are alike and each tree follows the principles of bonsai aesthetics. Exhibition-grade wire is hand-twisted and shaped to show the beauty of bonsai in an undying sculpture.
