Medium: Acrylic, Collage, and Mixed Media
Mary has been a maker since she was a child growing up in West Virginia, influenced by a creative and talented mother and grandmothers. She moved to California in 1998 to pursue a career in wildlife and fisheries biology and over the years, she has explored forms of arts and crafts for enjoyment and stress relief. Mary has no formal art education and enjoys learning through the discovery of new artists and creative tools. Over the past 4 years, her work has focused on mixed media and in particular, collage using hand-painted papers. Mary’s inspiration comes from the natural world and many of her subjects are the species she encounters on the job. She has a particular interest in California’s imperiled species and hopes that her work will help increase people’s awareness about their conservation needs. Mary lives among the tall trees of Foresthill, CA with her husband, son and two crazy dogs.
