About:
Lina Rel was born in Soviet Russia in the mid 60’s in a city northeast of Moscow. She completed her undergraduate studies in teaching and taught a kindergarten class until she left Russia for the United States in 2003. Unfortunately her credentials were not reciprocal to teach here in the United States but her love for education and children carried through in her work as a lead custodian for an elementary school in the Rocklin Unified district. While working at the school district she received numerous praises for her painting and drawing talent as she decorated the library and cafeteria with giant colorful murals. She retired from the district in 2018 and decided to dedicate her time to refining her artistic skills in a multitude of media but has really found her niche in painting and creating life size sculptures from driftwood. Lina has started to explore metal arts as well by learning welding techniques and soft metal repousse. Lina lives in North Auburn with her husband, Ted. They complement each other in art with Ted using his engineering background to create the backbone and structure of the driftwood sculptures where Lina uses her talent to bring her work to life, one piece of wood at a time.
