Email: colleengiorgi@yahoo.com

Location: Lincoln
Medium: Mixed Media and Watercolor

About:

Colleen Giorgi’s preferred subject matter is often animals, food and household items rendered in vivid watercolor. Her style usually derives from looking at the Big Picture then focusing on details which bring an up close, quirky, and disconcerting personal journey to the viewer Colleen gives her art a twist, doing something that will make people smile, by adding a funny look on an animal or involving people within the piece.

A newcomer to art at a late age, 57, Colleen started taking watercolor classes in 2004. She had never taken art classes before and never thought she would be a good artist. In her very first watercolor class the instructor stated that the people in class who persevere will be will more successful than the those who have the talent, but lack dedication. That was Colleen’s ‘aha’ moment, realizing that was her way into the art world because perseverance was the name of Colleen’s game at that point forward!

In 2006 Colleen mustered up the courage to enter her first juried show and when she was accepted she thought, “Wow, maybe I can be an artist after all!” Since then Colleen’s work has appeared in over 40 exhibitions winning awards and acceptance. In 2017 Colleen was one of twenty artists chosen from Placer County to exhibit as a Placer Principal in 2017. Her watercolor, “Almost to the Top” was chosen by City of Sacramento as one of the seven pieces winning the “Own the City” community revitalization contest. At the Contemporary Art Gallery, Bethesda Maryland, she holds a permanent place in their archives since winning 5th place in their 1st International “No Theme” Online exhibit. Additionally, her piece “Glass Reflections” was chosen for the Artexpo Autumn Rome 2018 International art exhibition in Rome.

Colleen is active in community art. She was Board Secretary for the Art League of Lincoln 2012-2016. For the last five years she has been selected to judge the Congressional High School Art Competition in Washington, DC.
