About:

Barbara Noble Biography

I was introduced to plein air painting through Jeff Horn at Irvine Valley College. At that time, my office at UC Irvine in Joan Irvine Hall held many of the original artworks destined for the Irvine Museum. For several years this was a daily influence. After moving back to Northern California, I’ve continued my art education at Academy of Art San Francisco, with graduate classes and workshops with master artists.

My work is considered Impressionistic with influence from the early California painters. On location I use sketchbook with pen and watercolor along with photo references for my oil plein air and studio work. I’m a fourth generation Californian, with my original Swiss great-grandparents settling in the Napa Valley. Besides feeling a special relationship to the Napa Valley, I love to paint California seascape and landscapes.

Influential workshops I’ve taken recently are with Paul Kratter and Jon Poon. I attended a 2 week program at La Romita School of Art in Umbria, Italy with David Savellano, architect/artist. The Yolo AgArt program which arranges artist paint-outs at farms and ranches has helped me appreciate our agricultural heritage. I currently reside in Roseville, California.
