Celebrating our 22nd Season – Our History

The Auburn Summer Series tradition started with one person’s vision . . . to bring music to the Library Garden Amphitheater.

In early 1989, Auburn community arts patron, Marilyn Gehlbach, gathered interested representatives from the Arts Council of Placer County, Friends of the Library, Auburn Symphony and Symphony Guild, and the Auburn Recreation Department to explore the notion of free outdoor summer concerts at the amphitheater.

The Summer Series Committee was born, hosting its first concert in July 1989. The mission of the committee is to provide a variety of musical entertainment to the community without charge.

Since the beginning, these free community concerts have been made possible by generous donations from local businesses and civic organizations, and we gratefully acknowledge their support.
