AGROartTM Competition

The annual AGROartTM competition celebrates the history and progress of Placer County's agricultural and arts industries. AGROartTM is joyful! It promotes the commitment and professionalism of local ranchers, farmers, growers and artists in their respective trade or discipline and their continued role in the economic development of Placer County. ARTIES Awards

PlacerArts is seeking nominations of individuals and groups to recognize and to honor for outstanding artistic achievements and volunteer contributions in the arts in Placer County. Each year the "Artie" award is designed and crafted by a selected Placer County artist. For details on Nomination Categories click here.

Auburn Art Walk

The much-celebrated Auburn Art Walk has been an invaluable catalyst for the exposure of local artists and merchants in Auburn. Taking place on the second Thursday of April, June, August, and October, the Auburn Art Walk is a social time when Downtown and Old Town business owners keep their doors open from 6 to 9 p.m., hosting free public receptions, while art viewers, strolling or riding the free trolley from site to site, immerse themselves in art, beauty and hospitality. Autumn Art Studios Tour

Don't miss the Autumn Art Studios Tour - a three-day self-guided driving tour of over 75 artists showing and demonstrating their art in more than 50 artists' studios. Get an up close and personal view of the region's finest working artists in media from blown glass to pit-fired clay, painted silk to calligraphy. Destination Dogwood

Did you know that the dogwood tree is a native of Placer County? Dogwoods grow from valley floor in south Placer through the foothills and to the 6300-ft. elevation in the high Sierra. Propagation and planting of new native and non-native species of dogwoods and related beautification and arts projects are encouraged!

Jazz at 808

Now in its sixth season, Jazz at 808 is the vision of the late Phyllis Butz in cooperation with Jimmy Robinson who continues to share his musical gifts so generously.

Percussionist Jimmy Robinson is the driving force behind the Jazz at 808 series, always bringing with him the most accomplished musicians available from Northern California and beyond, assuring sell-out performances each season. Click Here for 2008 Season Program.

Old Library Art Studio (OLAS)

At the historic Carnegie Library building, a community of artists-in-residence generate waves of creativity that flow out to the community. It is a place of positive cooperative effort and a source of great pride. OLAS is open to the public for special events, workshops, and lectures. School tours and visits with the artists may be arranged by appointment. For more information, click here.

Placer Farm & Barn Tour

The 5th annual Placer Farm and Barn Tour will take place on October 12, 2008. Celebrating Placer Countyıs agricultural heritage and the family farms that feed us, this is a fun-filled day for families and people of all ages to explore the farms and ranches that dot Placer Countyıs rural landscape. Roseville Community Office

In July, 2006 the Arts Council of Placer County entered into a two-year pilot partnership with the City of Roseville. The Arts Council of Placer County hired Judi Nicholson as Arts Administrator for the community of Roseville and opened a satellite office on Vernon St. In coordination with the city Parks & Recreation Department and the Roseville Cultural Arts Committee, coalition building efforts between arts and culture organizations, the Chamber of Commerce, the City of Roseville and local residents are well under way. Summer Series

The Summer Series takes place on four Sundays evenings in July at the outdoor Library Garden Theater. Each season has something for everyone, from pops to rock, blues to salsa.

The Arts Building Gallery

Located at 808 Lincoln Way in downtown Auburn, The Arts Building Gallery features local and regional artists. With exhibits changing every six to eight weeks the viewer is greeted by a variety of various genres and mediums exemplifying the rich talent of Sierra Foothills artists. Arts in Education Programs

PlacerArts is experienced in the development of educational programs and services for students, in public schools grades K-12 and for special constituencies.

If you are a teacher, administrator or superintendent interested in improving your district and school visual and performing arts education program or employing the arts as recreation, enrichment or prevention tools - please fill out the on-line interest form to set up a consultation.

C.R.E.A.T.E.

An acronym for Choosing to Realize and Experience the Arts Through Experience! An after-school youth apprenticeship program in the creative professions for students in grades 9-12.

K:PASA

Kaleidoscope: Program for After-School Arts - professionally facilitated arts sessions available for students ages 7-17.

Local Arts Education Partnership: Arts Work

Partnerships with Western Placer Unified and Placer Union High School Districts demonstrate successful planning and implementation of district arts plans to increase teacher excellence and student learning in dance, drama, music, and visual arts for students Kindergarten through Grade Twelve. The multi-year partnerships, supported in part by grants from the California Arts Council and the California Department of Education, are model arts programs with strategies applicable to school districts interested in improving their core arts programs.

Poetry Out Loud

The California Arts Council has joined the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Poetry Foundation to promote Poetry Out Loud, which allows students to take a classic poem and make it theirs by memorizing it and delivering it to others. Students will be judged on presence, inflection, accuracy and comprehension of the poem. Students in Placer County will participate for the second time in 2008. The Arts Building

Situated in downtown Auburn, The Arts Building is a ten- thousand square foot arts center which houses PlacerArts, the Auburn Symphony, and six working artists-in-residence. The synergistic space offers a year-round gallery, continuous cultural events, and a teaching space and clay lab for public enjoyment. Placer Arts League and Sierra Foothills Potters Guild

Placer Arts League, founded in 1958, is an organization of active fine artists and crafts persons who meet regularly for artist presentations and demonstrations on a variety of media and art-related topics. Operating as a division of the Arts Council of Placer County since early 2006, the league ’s goal is to support area artists and their craft, as well as to provide venues for exhibition of their work.

The Sierra Foothills Potters Guild is a subgroup of the Placer Arts League, offering opportunities for members to participate in workshops, sell their art and increase awareness of clay art in the area.

Technical Assistance

PlacerArts provides ongoing technical assistance to Placer County's established and emerging artists, local art agencies, and art groups. PlacerArts is part of several event and initiative committees in the county and has been instrumental in fostering three community concert series, six arts festivals, one national arts exhibition, three major multicultural celebrations and numerous arts education programs.
